A postdoctoral position is available in the Albert Laboratory at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The lab investigates how genetic differences between individuals influence gene expression, cell biology and complex traits in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Typical projects combine wet-lab experimental genomics with statistical genetics & computational biology, using yeast as our main model system. The postdoctoral scholar will have considerable freedom to pursue their research goals, assuming they broadly fit with the interests of the group.
Our lab is supported by generous and flexible funding from the NIH, giving us the ability to freely conduct curiosity-driven research. Opportunities also exist to join ongoing projects.
80% Research and data analysis
* Design and conduct research in genetics, genomics, or molecular biology, with a focus on complex trait genetics, gene expression regulation, or evolutionary genomics.
* Select, adapt, and develop methods to meet specific research needs.
* Maintain a detailed notebook
* Analyze data using computational methods and interpret results independently.
* Read relevant scientific literature and identify relevant facts, techniques, and procedures.
* Contribute to manuscript and grant writing, generate figures, tables, and results related to the research, and write up the methods section and main results/findings related to the research
* Collect and prepare data for manuscripts and grants.
10% Laboratory Coordination
* Contribute to the operation and maintenance of equipment, protocol development and implementation, data management, and analysis
* Ensure lab safety and assist with chemical waste, biosafety, and reporting
* Coordinate work schedules for execution of complex laboratory studies.
* Participate in lab events such as lab meeting and journal club, and meet regularly with the PI
Presenting and Instruction - 10%
* Present research in national and international meetings in oral and poster format; prepare abstracts and slides for presentation.
* Instruct students, fellows and other junior researchers in proper laboratory methods and procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
* A Doctorate Degree in relevant scientific fields (including but not limited to genetics, genomics, computational biology, biomedical sciences, or evolutionary biology).
Previous lab experience
Preferred Qualifications:
* Record of scientific accomplishments as demonstrated by primary research publications
* Previous experience with genetics, genomics, microbiology, or computational biology
* Previous experience with statistical and computational approaches
* Strong organizational and communication skills
* Excellent writing
* Curiosity, independence, and drive

The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development encompasses a broad range of biological disciplines, including the storage and expression of information, its translation into the workings of individual cells, and the assembly of cells into tissues and organ systems.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: NIH Post-Doctoral 2026 Rates - $63,480 - $77,076 annually; depending on your post-doc year
