This is a position in Dr. Andrew Adams' Lab within the Department of Surgery at the University of Minnesota. We are looking for a motivated researcher with a strong interest in basic and translational clinical research. A background in immunology or a related field (molecular biology, virology, genetics, etc) is a bonus! This position works under the direction of our higher-level researchers in the lab and under supervision of Dr.

Andrew Adams and Dr. Neal Iwakoshi. The purpose of the Researcher 1/2 position is to assist in these areas of investigation of our lab: (1) costimulation blockade and costimulation independent rejection (2) xenotransplantation (3) transplant diagnostics (4) transplant outcomes.

This is a great opportunity for a BA/BS level scientist to join a cutting-edge academic laboratory focused on developing novel cellular and molecular therapies to prevent graft rejection and induce immune transplant tolerance.

• Perform a variety of basic molecular and biochemical analyses on animal specimens, including fluorescence microscopy analyses, flow cytometry, cell isolation, freeze/thaw of archived cells, cell culture; flow cytometric characterization and purification (sorting); biochemical assays on DNA, RNA/protein. Preparation of media and various molecular biology techniques.
• Collect and integrate data from multiple sources. Review literature for relevant sources of scientific information and methods.
• Mouse colony management, such as: breeding, checking for new liters, weaning infant mice.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, order and stock items.
• Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.
• Conduct background literature research on relevant topics including current methods, reagents, and ethics.
• Prepare media, enzymes, and solutions under sterile conditions in large quantities.

• Perform intermediate/advanced molecular and biochemical analyses on animal and human specimens, including fluorescence microscopy analyses, flow cytometry, cell isolation, freeze/thaw of archived cells, cell culture; flow cytometric characterization and purification (sorting); biochemical assays on DNA, RNA/protein. Preparation of media and various molecular biology techniques. These analyses are to be followed up with statistical analysis and preliminary interpretation of results to identify trends or anomalies.
• Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers and volunteers.
• Oversee the use of laboratory equipment, training personnel/volunteers and maintaining performance and maintenance records.
• Draft sections of primary research manuscripts, prepare publication-quality figures, and provide data summaries for grant applications.
• Researcher 2s will generally be expected to perform tasks with less direction, more independence and function as a resource for more junior researchers, volunteers and students.

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

• BA/BS or equivalent combination of education and experience to total at least four years.

• BA/BS and at least 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience to total at least six years.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to learn complex processes or procedures and desire to learn and grow in a scientific field.
• Team player who has demonstrated experience successfully working with others to achieve a common goal.
• Ability to work on-site, M-F and flex schedule as needed based on the activities of the laboratory.
• Will be required to stand for several hours at a time and required to lift and move up to 25lbs
