Research Professional 1 - Food Science and Nutrition
About the Position
Position is a 100% Civil Service position. Position performs research with minimal direction, is able to solve research related issues, able to oversee projects and directs students in the lab.
This is a short-term position with a duration of 1 year with the possibility of extension as determined by the department.
The position will be in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, CFANS, University of Minnesota under the supervision of Dr. Pam Ismail.

Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm - 40 hours per week
Please note, this position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship. This position does not offer a STEM OPT training program.
Responsibilities- Execute scientific experiments independently in analytical chemistry involving protein and various metabolites (30%)
- Prepare and run experiments on various instruments and research equipment (30%)
- Operate and maintain lab equipment as needed (10%)
- Keep detailed records of all experiments in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets and web-based applications (5%)
- Collect and summarize date in tables and figures (10%)
- Train researchers as needed on lab equipment, procedures and analysis (5%)
- Order supplies, maintain inventories and equipment, ensure compliance with safety, and regulatory reporting requirements (10%)
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
- 1 year of related experience
- Must have experience in Food Analytical Chemistry
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and statistical tools]
- Experience in applying knowledge and skills to recurring tasks, with emphasis on precision and timeliness
- Must be able to work independently and supervise graduate and undergraduate researchers
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various analytical tools, including electrophoresis, nitrogen analyzer, other chemical composition related analytical tools Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent in problem solving
Pay Range: $27.00 a hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
