The Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a Graduate Research Assistant to contribute to multiple federally and privately funded projects focused on the development of innovative techniques and hardware for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with an emphasis on neuroimaging.
The successful candidate will participate in the design, simulation, construction, and experimental evaluation of advanced RF and electronic systems for biomedical imaging applications. Responsibilities will include electromagnetic simulation and modeling, RF coil development and fabrication, 3D design and printing of mechanical components, laboratory testing, and evaluation of prototype systems.
The candidate is expected to have a strong background in developing innovative electronic hardware and computational tools for biomedical research and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment. The position may also involve analyzing experimental data, documenting research findings, contributing to scientific manuscripts and presentations, and collaborating with other researchers at CMRR.
This is a part-time position available immediately, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance, achievement of project goals, and continued availability of funding.
QualificationsAll required qualifications must be clearly documented in the application materials.
- Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a closely related field.
- At least one year of research experience in areas related to biomedical technologies.
- Experience performing advanced electromagnetic simulations and developing realistic radio frequency (RF) coil models for electromagnetic simulation environments.
- Experience operating RF and mechanical laboratory equipment, including network analyzers and 3D printers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship experience focused on MRI hardware and related electromagnetic simulations.
- Experience designing RF coils for MRI applications, including the development and 3D printing of coil layouts and mechanical components.
- Experience using electromagnetic simulation software, particularly Ansys HFSS and CST Studio Suite.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively present and publish research findings.
Pay Range: $28.93/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
