Work Overview

This position will prepare and cook aesthetically pleasing, nutritional food for residents, staff, and guests of the Minnesota Veterans Home - Minneapolis.

The position is designated as full-time, with 80 hours per 2‑week pay period and may include additional work hours based on business needs.

Work Hours and Shift Differential
  • Day shift: 5:00 am – 1:30 pm
  • Evening shift: 10:30 am – 7:00 pm
  • Shift differential of $2.25 per hour for hours worked before 6:00 am or after 6:00 pm.

    Friday & Saturday / Week 2:
    Thursday & Tuesday
Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume/application clearly describes your experience in the areas listed below and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Knowledge of:
  • Large scale cooking methods and equipment sufficient to prepare and serve food for a large number of people and adjust recipes to accommodate different numbers of people.
  • Food values and nutrition sufficient to prepare items from standard recipes.
  • Health and safety principles involved in food preparation operations sufficient to prepare and serve safe and healthy meals.
Ability to:
  • Follow instructions and read and comprehend written instructions.
  • Prepare special medical diets.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience cooking in a large long‑term care facility.
  • Experience with inventory and stocking.
Additional Requirements
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists, including review of documentation related to job performance.
  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services background check will be conducted on finalists; finalists must pass the check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening or chest x‑ray is required prior to employment.
