Area Manager, BD Manager
Our client is a building materials dealer serving commercial, multifamily, and residential builders and subcontractors across a multi-location footprint in the Upper Midwest. With a strong operational foundation and sound supply chain logistics, the company has established itself as a preferred supplier for commodity construction products and holds exclusive distribution rights on specialty building products. Now, they're looking for a strategic sales leader to build on that market reach, redefine the go-to-market strategy and develop the sales team to capture greater share, all within a culture deeply committed to quality materials, customer service, and community.
TheOpportunity
This is a newly created Sales Manager role built for a leader ready to drive real growth. The company is centralizing its sales vision and building a more proactive, field-driven culture across its distribution network.
You will lead a team of 15 sales professionals across 8 locations, with combined revenue exceeding $215 million. The mandate is not just to manage what exists, but to build what comes next: how the team prospects, how it engages builders and subcontractors in the field, and how it captures new opportunities across a growing region.
This role is for someone who leads from the front. You will be in the field with your team, working alongside branch managers, and earning credibility by doing the work.
The Sales Manager reports to senior leadership and will have a real voice in shaping the organization's direction.
What You Will Need to Be Successful- Proven Sales Leader You build teams, not just manage them. You recruit well, develop people over time, and have direct conversations about performance and wins.
- Lead from the Field You lead by doing. Ride-alongs and joint sales calls are core to how you coach, and your team knows you will show up alongside them.
- Business Development Mindset You push teams past reactive bidding toward real pipeline growth. You set the expectation that finding new customers is part of every rep's job and build the cadence to support it.
- Specialty Products Growth You know how to take an underutilized product category and turn it into a competitive advantage.
- Sense of Urgency You move fast, make decisions, and keep things in motion. Your energy sets the tone, and it shows.
