About the Job
The technician will perform research and development work on our insect engineering team. This will include developing a genetic biocontrol agent for Spotted Wing Drosophila and performing assortative mating studies.
Responsibilities- Fly husbandry: keeping several fly lines alive and healthy (20%)
- Fly behavioral tracking using machine vision and AI, including troubleshooting assay development and data analysis (40%)
- Fly engineering: molecular biology and genetics to confirm genotypes of recombinant fly lines (30%)
- Communication and meeting attendance (10%)
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate biology degree. Interest in incipient speciation.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Hard working, creative, professional.
Pay Range: $15.25 - $17.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
