Post-Doctoral Associate - Veterinary Population Medicine

The individual in this position will work mainly with Dr. Cesar ACorzo and the MSHMP team with the goal of contributing to continue to make MSHMP a large national and relevant project in the US swine industry.

We plan to select and hire one post-doc to perform needed research on infectious disease epidemiology on specific pathogens at thefarm level but also conduct research using data collected or generated in relation to activities of the Morrison Swine Health Monitoring Project. This position will focus research efforts on sequence comparison, virus evolution, study design, data management and analysis for different projects focused on swine diseasecontrol and prevention.

• 50%- Research and Technical Support in Molecular Epidemiology:
  Conduct research and provide technical assistance to the PI, students, and trainees on data analyses related to food animal disease molecular epidemiology.
• 10%- Research Data Management:
  Generate and organize research data for future projects.
• 10%- Research Collaboration and Scientific Communication:
  Collaborate with the PI in the generation and testing of research hypotheses and data analysis, writing of papers, grants, reports, and preparation of presentations and lectures.
• 10%- Professional Development and Scientific Engagement:
  Attend, participate, or present at laboratory meetings, seminars, graduate and undergraduate lectures, and conferences as needed.
• 10%- Administrative and Project Coordination:
  Perform miscellaneous office duties as assigned by the PI including, but not limited to, the organization and coordination of meetings and projects.
• 10%- Collaboration and Partnership Development:
  Build and maintain frequent communication with collaborating faculty members and non-UMN collaborators and if required traveling to domestic/international destinations to meet with collaborators and collect data.

• Regular schedule would be 830 to 430 on weekdays.
• Occasionally there may be a Saturday/Sunday in which the candidate may be presenting research output at a scientific conference or travelling to a farm to collect samples.

The Veterinary Population Medicine (VPM) department specializes in population and individual animal medicine focusing on large animals’ health and production, biomedical science, and ecosystem and public health. Our faculty members conduct animal and public-health-focused research to better diagnose, treat, and prevent animal disease, as well as diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans. Faculty provide clinical instruction in medicine, diseases, surgery, production medicine, public health and reproduction of domestic large-animal species and are home to faculty in clinics, epidemiology, veterinary public health, and pathology.

Faculty members provide clinical services for animals, diagnostic services to animal owners, and continuing education and extension programs for veterinarians and animal owners.
