Medical Center Protection Officer; Security

Summary

Hennepin Healthcare has several openings for Medical Center Protection Officers in our Security department. This full‑time position works nights and every other weekend. The starting base pay is $29.14 an hour and may vary based on previous experience. Evening, night, and weekend shift differentials apply. Under general supervision, the officer performs routine‑difficulty work to maintain the safety and security of Medical Center facilities.

• Inspect all buildings and grounds to ensure their security.
• Maintain observation of areas during organized activities and keep records of any damage to property.
• Note and report pertinent information concerning security control during building and grounds inspections to supervisory staff.
• Respond to requests for assistance in dealing with visitor and patient problems.
• Assist in restraining agitated individuals or patients, or physically restrain clients and provide a secure escort.
• Administer emergency first aid and/or cardiac pulmonary resuscitation as required.
• Participate in the formulation and implementation of safety and security procedures.
• Explain safety and security procedures and instruct employees in the use of safety equipment or procedures.
• Assist during safety drills.
• Direct emergency evacuations until police or firemen arrive.
• Check and maintain safety and security equipment.
• Secure building areas by locking and unlocking doors at scheduled times.
• Physically expel unruly persons, prepare reports, and maintain records.
• Perform other related work as required, after appropriate training.

Minimum qualifications:

• Successful completion of two years of college or technical college coursework, preferably in criminal justice (e.g., police science, law enforcement, corrections).
• Or, two years of security experience such as military police, industrial, proprietary, or contract security within the last eight years.
• Or, two years of hospital experience (e.g., health care assistant, nursing, facilities, environmental services).
• Or, an approved equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must successfully complete prescribed training during the probationary period.
• May be required to be eligible and obtain a Minnesota ClassB driver’s license.
