Deputy Sheriff - Court Security & Transport

Overview

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office seeks a dedicated Deputy Sheriff to focus on Court Security & Jail Transport. The role is a Monday–Friday schedule supporting court safety, transporting individuals in custody to court hearings, medical appointments, partner detention centers, and other locations.

• Ensure safety and order of courtrooms, judges, staff, and visitors.
• Provide secure transportation of individuals in custody between jail facilities, courts, medical appointments, and approved locations.
• Maintain security within judicial buildings and restricted areas.
• Respond to incidents and support courtroom operations as needed.
• Collaborate with other units and attend community events to strengthen public safety.
• Maintain required physical fitness and meet safety standards for transporting inmates.

• Must be 21 years of age or older, hold a high school diploma or GED, and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be eligible to possess and lawfully use a firearm and successfully qualify with a handgun and department weapons.
• Must be P.O.S.T licensed or be eligible for licensing by the Minnesota P.O.S.T. board at the time of hire.
• Must pass background investigation, psychological examination, medical examination, and drug test.
• Experience as a sworn law enforcement officer is preferred.
• Must demonstrate good judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work while wearing protective gear.

Hourly wage range: $41.85 – $56.45. Lateral wage consideration up to $49.15 per hour for qualified law‑enforcement or military police experience.
