Diesel Fleet Technician
- Mid Shift 9/10am start time until 6/7pm M-F - $28-40/hr
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of trucks and trailers, ensuring they operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with regulatory standards. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues using OEM software, and complete a wide range of repairs from routine service to heavy engine and transmission work. The position combines hands-on technical work with accurate documentation, parts management, and collaboration with drivers and shop teams.
Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, including brakes, steering, suspension, and other mechanical systems.
- Use OEM diagnostic software to identify and troubleshoot engine performance issues and other system faults.
- Manage parts inventory by ordering, tracking, and organizing parts, and accurately charging parts and labor to electronic work orders.
- Complete and maintain detailed electronic work orders, including documentation for PMs, DOT inspections, repairs, and follow-up work.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, lighting, and control modules, as well as pneumatic systems.
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, and other heavy components.
- Carry out trailer repairs and maintenance, including mechanical, structural, and refrigeration-related work as needed.
- Conduct DOT inspections and perform required DOT-related repairs to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Execute welding and fabrication tasks to repair or modify components and equipment.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems used on fleet vehicles and related equipment.
- Perform refrigeration system checks and repairs associated with the fleet, when applicable.
- Collaborate closely with drivers to schedule repairs, understand reported issues, and communicate repair status.
- Lift up to 75 pounds and work on and under trucks for extended periods, including climbing, bending, and stretching as required by the job.
- Utilize service trucks to perform mobile repairs and travel between shops as needed.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Hands-on experience with diesel engine maintenance and repair, including diagnostics and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in using OEM diagnostic software to identify and resolve engine and system issues.
- Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance practices for trucks and trailers.
- Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical repairs on brakes, steering, suspension, and other critical systems.
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting and repair on commercial vehicles.
- Ability to perform DOT inspections and complete DOT-related repairs.
- Skill in managing parts inventory, including ordering, tracking, and billing parts accurately to work orders.
- Capability to write and maintain electronic work orders with precise documentation of labor and parts.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to work on and under trucks for extended periods, including climbing, bending, and stretching.
- Experience performing heavy repairs on engines, transmissions, and other major components.
You primarily work out of well-equipped shops located in Coon Rapids, Monticello, and North Branch, with service trucks provided for mobile repairs and travel between locations. The role is hands-on and physically active, involving regular work on and under trucks and trailers, and use of tools and diagnostic equipment in a shop setting. You operate both in-shop and on the road, performing repairs in a professional fleet maintenance environment that emphasizes safety, reliability, and efficient service.
JobType & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
