Position Purpose

The Maintenance Technician II is an advanced-level facilities professional responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving University facilities and infrastructure. This position performs skilled maintenance work across multiple trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical systems, and building construction.

The Maintenance Technician II serves as a technical resource within the Facilities Management department and assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of capital improvement projects, renovations, and preventative maintenance programs.

This position supports the University's mission by ensuring campus facilities are safe, functional, aesthetically pleasing, and conducive to learning, student engagement, and ministry activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Facility Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (70%)
  • Perform advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus buildings, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building-related issues within the scope of qualifications, training, and applicable codes.
  • Respond to and complete maintenance work orders in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities and building systems to identify maintenance deficiencies, safety concerns, and equipment failures.
  • Perform carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, ceiling, door, window, and finish repairs.
  • Assist with HVAC maintenance and repairs as directed.
  • Install, repair, and replace building fixtures, equipment, and components.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, building codes, and University policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance activities, and project progress.
  • Support emergency response efforts and assist with after-hours maintenance needs when necessary.
Electrical and Plumbing Systems (15%)
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of commercial electrical systems, lighting systems, controls, receptacles, breakers, and low-voltage systems.
  • Assist with electrical upgrades, remodeling projects, and installation of new equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing systems, including supply lines, drainage systems, fixtures, valves, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Coordinate with licensed contractors when projects exceed in-house capabilities or require specialized licensing.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable electrical, plumbing, and life-safety regulations.
Construction and Project Management (10%)
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and managing facilities improvement projects, renovations, and campus construction initiatives.
  • Coordinate work with contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and scopes of work to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and material needs.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide technical recommendations regarding constructability, maintenance requirements, and facility improvements.
  • Assist with contractor oversight to ensure quality workmanship, compliance with University standards, and adherence to safety requirements.
Other Duties (5%)
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training, safety programs, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with seasonal operations, including snow removal and campus event support.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Job Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Associate degree, technical certification, licensed trade training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, construction, commercial building operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in multiple skilled trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance.
  • Experience assisting with facility renovation, construction, or capital improvement projects preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Journeyman-level experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or a related building trade.
  • Construction management coursework, certification, or practical experience.
  • Project Management training, certification, or demonstrated project leadership experience.
  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare, commercial, or institutional facilities.
