Position: MACHINIST (WELDER) with Security Clearance
Duties The primary purpose of this position is: the primary purpose of this position to serve as an Reserve technician (ART) journey-level mechanic that inspects, machines, welds, and repairs aircraft parts and components, to design and manufacture support equipment used in all types of aircraft maintenance, and to train reservists in accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: DUTY 1:
Troubleshoots, overhauls, machines and repairs various types, and sizes of industrial plan/facilities equipment. DUTY 2:
Performs complex, intricate, specialized or nonstandard machining. Performs various welding assignments. DUTY 3:
Plans, develops, writes and/or updates complex coded source programs in one or two designated computer command languages. DUTY 4:
Ensures compliance and practice of security directives, good safety, and health habits in all work areas. DUTY 5:
Controls tools. Certifies work produced under the USAF Technical Order Program. Requirements Conditions of employment

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3400 - Machine Tool Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to do the work of a Machinist (Welder) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
* Ability to measure and lay out materials, tools, steps, etc., needed to perform assignments. Ability to apply technical practices in the performance of assigned work. Ability to use mechanical shop drawings. Ability to use hand tools for machine shop. Ability to clean work area and/or job site upon completion of work. Ability to follow budgeting directives, instructions, and procedures.
* Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials accounting and security and ability to operate machine tools. Knowledge of the nature and properties of metals required for work to be performed. Knowledge of how numerous metals, metal alloys and other materials react to different machine tools and processes and techniques. Knowledge of operating characteristics and design of a wide range of aircraft equipment.

* Practical knowledge of and skill in applying the full range of conventional and/or numerically controlled machining principles, processes, and techniques, in addition to welding procedures. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations and technical orders. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its procedures. Knowledge of applicable personnel, manpower, time, and attendance, and budgeting instructions, guidelines, and requirements.

* Skill in planning work sequences. Skill in operating a wide variety of conventional and/or NC machine tools. Skill in using measuring instruments to maintain precise dimensions. Skill in repairing, welding, and machining a wide variety of aircraft components, parts,…
