Equipment Mechanic Specialists perform skilled mechanical work in the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of fleet equipment used across airport operations, including, but not limited to: heavy trucks, front-end loaders, air compressors, industrial and row crop tractors, snow plows, snow blowers, sanders, sweepers, mowers, police cars, firefighting and crash-rescue equipment, and miscellaneous airport equipment. This role supports airfield, landside, public safety, and maintenance departments by ensuring all vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable, and compliant with applicable regulations.
This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 49.

- Starting rate of pay: $41.587/hour
- +$0.40/hour for Class A CDL
- +$2.00/hour - 3rd Shift (Night)
- $195/month employer contribution to the employee's Health Care Savings Plan (HCSP) account
- Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) pension
- Coordinated Plan - In addition to competitive hourly wages, workers can also earn overtime
- Employer provided uniforms
- $300/year for boots/safety apparel (increases to $325/year in February 2027)
- Reimbursement for new/replacement tools up to $500/year (prorated based on start date and after successful completion of probationary period)
- Day – Monday
- Friday – 6:00 a.m.
- 2:30 p.m. - Night – Sunday
- Thursday – 10:00 p.m.
- 6:30 a.m.
* Shift assignments are bid twice each calendar year, based on seniority.

Job Duties- Inspect, diagnose, service, maintain, and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment including lawn and grounds equipment, light-duty pickups and sedans, police vehicles, hybrid/electric class vehicles, fire apparatus, off-road construction equipment, and Class 8 diesel trucks.
- Inspect, diagnose, service, maintain, and repair heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, sweepers, snow removal equipment, related attachments, and specialized airfield maintenance machinery.
- Inspect, adjust, install, repair, and/or remove and replace parts and equipment, including gas and diesel engines and lubricating, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and hydraulic systems.
- Remove and overhaul chassis units, including but not limited to brake systems, transmissions, differentials, and front and rear axles.
- Repair and replace brakes, steering, and suspension systems, brake drums and rotors, springs, and other parts as necessary on electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic braking and steering systems.
