RESPONSIBILITIES

General Maintenance, Operations & Support (90%)

• Inspects, lubricates, repairs, and maintains air handling units, including fixed blade axial fans and fume hood systems
• Replaces fan sheaves, shafts, bearings, and motors
• Inspects, lubricates, troubleshoots, repairs, and adjusts controls of domestic heating and/or cooling pumps
• Tests, cleans, lubricates, monitors, and inspects water- and air-cooled compressors and vacuum pumps; repairs and replaces components (including filters) if isolated by an approved backflow preventer
• Repairs motors and pumps
• Inspects and lubricates portable sump pumps
• Maintains and repairs small engines
• Installs and maintains window air-conditioning units (excluding refrigerant-side work)
• Maintains and repairs general building systems and hardware
• Maintains and repairs overhead doors
• Tests and inspects eyewash and safety showers
• Maintains and replaces bathroom accessories

Systems Monitoring, Support & Administrative Duties (10%)

• Troubleshoots building equipment and systems using a computerized equipment monitoring and automation system
• Demonstrates Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) competency, including work order searches, parts ordering, and timecard entry
• Notifies supervisor of equipment or supplies needing repair or replenishment, and facilities requiring upkeep
• Assists Mechanic 2's and 3's as assigned without assuming full responsibilities of higher classifications

Required (minimum)

• Vocational education in mechanical maintenance totaling two years
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Certain positions within this classification may require specific licenses and/or certificates (i.e., pool mechanic license, welding certificate, etc.).
• This position must pass a criminal background check

Preferred

• Experience or a strong technical understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking work orders, labor, and asset history.
• Proficiency in navigating Building Automation Systems (BAS) to monitor equipment performance, respond to system alarms, and troubleshoot mechanical sequences
• Certain positions within this classification may require specific licenses and/or certificates (i.e. pool operators certificate)

Physical and environmental requirements

• This position requires 100% on campus presence.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor, lifting to 50 pounds
• This position may be exposed to hazardous conditions where hearing and visual protection may be required.
• Ability to work in confined spaces wearing a PAPR
• Ability to work in extreme hot/cold, dirty spaces
• Ability to climb ladders and perform work overhead
• Ability to climb, stoop, bend, stand, crawl, push and pull for extended periods of time
• Ability to use hand tools and specialized power tools
• Work is performed mainly within the building, but some outside work is required.
• Ability to perform snow removal duties including shoveling and operating a snow removal equipment
