Agate Social Works also offers guidance and support for Massachusetts reimbursement processes related to mental health services in special education (SpEd). By collaborating closely with school teams, the organization strengthens school‑based systems of care and promotes equitable access to support for all students.
Role DescriptionThis is a full‑time, on‑site School Social Worker role based in the Greater Minneapolis–St. Paul Area. The School Social Worker will provide direct social‑emotional support to students through individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and skill‑building. The role includes collaborating with teachers, administrators, families, and community partners to develop and implement interventions that improve student engagement, behavior, and academic outcomes. Responsibilities include participating in IEP and student support team meetings, documenting services, and contributing to behavior and safety plans.
The School Social Worker will also provide consultation and training to school staff on mental health, trauma‑informed practices, and strategies for supporting diverse learners.
- Demonstrated skills in individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and social‑emotional skill‑building with children and adolescents.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary school teams, including educators, administrators, related service providers, and families.
- Knowledge of special education processes, IEP development, and school‑based mental health services, including familiarity with reimbursement or funding mechanisms.
- Strong abilities in documentation, case management, and maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential records.
- Excellent communication, cultural humility, and relationship‑building skills with students, families, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program required; current or eligibility for appropriate state social work licensure for school settings.
- Experience in K–12 school environments or youth‑serving settings strongly preferred.
- Ability to work on‑site full time, manage a varied caseload, and adapt to changing student and school needs.
