Position: School Social Worker (TOSA)

School Social Worker (Teacher on Special Assignment)

Position Available: 0.6 FTE HHM/Foster Care/Schools to Housing Grant 0.4 FTE RTC School Social Worker 189-day calendar plus 10 additional days Salary and benefits based on current Teacher Collective Bargaining Agreement Reports to Director of Student Services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report to special education supervisory staff and building principals.
  • Serve as an active member of student assistance and special education teams.
  • Conduct assessments and provide case management services, including mental health support for students receiving special education services.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and school staff to address students' academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with special education due process requirements.
  • Consult with classroom teachers to develop, implement, and document pre-referral intervention strategies.
  • Support school personnel in responding to crisis situations, including suspected neglect or abuse, school avoidance, attendance concerns, and family crises.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services for students and, when appropriate, their families.
  • Foster collaborative partnerships between families, schools, and community agencies to support student success.
  • Connect families with appropriate community-based social, behavioral, and mental health resources.
  • Coordinate and oversee services for students and families experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (HHM/McKinney-Vento), ensuring equitable access to educational services and supports.
  • Serve as the district liaison for students in foster care, collaborating with child welfare agencies, schools, and families to promote educational stability and compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.
  • Provide leadership, training, coaching, and mentorship to district school social workers to promote best practices, professional growth, and consistent service delivery across schools.
  • Oversee district initiatives related to school stability and housing, including coordination of school-to-housing supports, partnerships with community agencies, and access to resources that address housing insecurity and barriers to student success.
  • Support district wide implementation of social work practices, policies, and procedures that advance student well-being, educational access, and equitable outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • LICSW Licensed and Clinical Supervision Licensed
  • Current Minnesota school social worker license
  • Knowledge of the principles of behavioral learning, evaluation techniques, and behavior management strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience conducting functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and developing and implementing positive behavior intervention plans (PBIS/BIPs) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and effective in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and work collaboratively with building and district administrators, teachers, and educational assistants.
  • Master's degree in Behavior Analysis, Special Education, School Psychology, or a related field, with appropriate school and/or Board Certification (e.g., BCBA or applicable state certification).
  • Experience working with students with significant disabilities and intensive behavioral needs.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with the schools to Housing project and grant.
