Position: COC Pathways Home - Housing Specialist

Sabathani Community Center (SCC) is one of Minnesota’s oldest African American-founded nonprofits & serves a multi-cultural community of more than 50,000 community members in South Minneapolis. SCC was founded in 1966 by a handful of concerned community members seeking to address social and economic disparities in underserved communities in the areas of youth programming, housing, health and education. The organization is a major resource hub expanding services within the South Minneapolis community.

About the role

SCC Housing Services offers a range of housing services to provide the optimal intensity and duration of supportive services needed for the individuals and families we serve to thrive. We house people without preconditions such as sobriety because housing is a basic human right. Sabathani’s CoC Pathways Home offers Permanent Supportive Housing for those experiencing chronic homelessness. This is a long-term service designed for those having the greatest needs and vulnerability in our community.

Our housing services include housing identification services, rental and move-in assistance, and on-going case management support that includes support with application for financial benefits, referral to educational and vocational programming, and transportation and childcare to attend this programming.

The physical duties associated with this position are consistent with duties associated with work performed in an office setting. What you'll do
  • Direct Support and Documentation – 85%
    • Intake of participants.
    • Examining participant income and family composition.
    • Providing housing information and assistance.
    • Inspecting units for compliance and housing quality standards (HQS).
    • Process rental payments to landlords.
  • Internal Support – 10%
    • Works closely with Sabathani’s CFO to process rental assistance payments.
    • Develop or refine internal processes to ensure efficiency in communication and programming.
    • Represents and promotes Sabathani’s mission and programs in a variety of public settings (outreach sites, events, organizations, referring agencies, etc.).
    • Educate Sabathani Staff about referral, the application requirements, and application process.
  • Other duties as assigned – 5%
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Human Services, Social Work, Housing Services, Community Development, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing housing services, case management, homeless services, or related social service support.
  • Experience working with individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, housing instability, or other barriers to housing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with HUD-funded programs, Continuum of Care programs, or HMIS.
  • Certified HQS Inspector or trained in Nspire inspections.
  • Knowledge of Hennepin County housing resources and community service systems.
  • Experience with landlord engagement and housing placement services.

  • Ability to work in office, community, and participant home-based settings.
  • Ability to travel throughout Hennepin County as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Schedule flexibility to meet participant and program needs.
  • Possesses the ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Understand the importance of customer service and professionalism.
  • Knowledge and experience with diverse groups of people of lower socioeconomic conditions.
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict management.
  • Competency or the ability to quickly learn Quick Books (Intuit Software) and Sales Force platforms.
  • Competency in MS Office:
    Word, Access, Publisher, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel to sites within 30-mile radius of the office.

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Valid MN Driver’s License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements.

The pay range for this role is:
30 - 30 USD per hour (Sabathani-Mpls).
