Case Management Assistant
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office is seeking to fill a limited duration Case Management Assistant (CMA) position and to create a list for future limited duration and permanent vacancies to support Hennepin County residents and work in a vibrant and diverse environment. As a CMA, you will help witnesses to crimes find access to resources and partner with and refer clients to external services when necessary.
Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus.
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center located at 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. With typical hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the need for occasional flexibility between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.
This is a full-time, limited duration (temporary), benefit earning position expected to last until June 30, 2029. This position is internally classified as Case Management Assistant. In this position, you will:
- Meet with clients to determine their needs, make referrals, and provide data to social service agencies to assist them in obtaining social services (may work with interpreters to communicate with clients).
- Explain legal requirements and departmental and County policies to clients.
- Meet with clients to obtain information about work, family, criminal and/or health status, and communicate this information to community and government partners.
- Confer with other staff about routine client care and/or progress.
- Contact social service providers to arrange for clients to meet.
- Read background files about clients and check relevant computer databases to obtain client information.
- Arrange transportation for clients.
- Confer with judges, healthcare providers, prosecutors and/or social workers about how to service client needs.
- Support a team by carrying out court orders pertaining to clients.
- Compile records of department statistics pertaining to number of clients served, client outcomes, and/or funding.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Two years of responsible, paid social service experience providing direct client service
- A two-year human services certificate
- OR
- Related education and/or experience to total two years.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- Performing legal case management.
- Working with witnesses within the criminal justice system.
- With crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques and trainings.
- Working on a multi-disciplinary team to assess and address client needs, including collaborating with professionals such as judges, healthcare providers, prosecutors, social workers, and internal staff.
- Handling highly confidential information.
- Working one-on-one with clients in a public law office.
- Knowledge of and experience with:
- The criminal and civil legal systems
- Community based resources for witnesses and victims of crime, including housing, financial assistance, mental health services, and other relevant programs.
- Interpersonal and organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Advanced skill using Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word).
- Ability to:
- Work under pressure during periods of high-volume activity.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Display cultural competence when working with victims from all cultural backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.
- Establish and maintain rapport with staff, community resource providers, and other criminal justice professionals so that teamwork and collaboration are preserved.
Candidates with fluency in another language in addition to English are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates who pass a language assessment may qualify for additional bilingual pay and duties.
