Software Engineer Intern job at The Minnesota Star Tribune. Minneapolis, MN. The Minnesota Star Tribune is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our Product Engineering team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to learn how we build and maintain the digital products that power our award-winning news platform. This internship is ideal for someone who is early in their software engineering journey and eager to gain real-world experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

You'll work alongside experienced engineers and have opportunities to contribute to both internal and external tools.
This is a hybrid position based in Minneapolis which can be flexible based on any ongoing coursework you may have. We are targeting 20 hours a week for this role.
What You'll Do

• Learn to build and maintain software with support from your team
• Assist with small frontend or backend tasks using Type Script and frameworks like React or NextJS
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to understand and implement features
• Participate in team activities such as standups, sprint planning, and code reviews
• Gain exposure to how we deploy and support production systems

• Some experience with coding, either through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships
• Interest in web development and modern frameworks like React, NextJS, NestJS or similar
• Familiarity with JavaScript, Typescript, or similar languages
• Curiosity, willingness to learn, and the ability to ask good questions

• Basic understanding of Git and version control tools Exposure to backend technologies or APIs
• Exposure to Typescript is a plus Experience using Git Hub or similar tools
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or deployment concepts
