Aboutthe Role
We are looking for an engineering manager to lead our Payments team, the system through which every dollar on Twitch flows. Your team builds the purchase experiences that millions of viewers use daily and the payment infrastructure that enables 7+ million creators to earn a living doing what they love.
This is a hands‑on leadership role where you will own real technical problems: orchestrating payments across multiple third‑party vendors, maintaining sub‑second response times at global scale, modernizing legacy systems while keeping the lights on, and ensuring every transaction is accurate down to the penny. You'll lead a team of ~5-7 engineers, many of them senior, and you'll be expected to go deep on architecture decisions alongside them.
What makes this role unique is its position at the center of Twitch’s business. Payments touch every monetization product. You'll collaborate daily with product, data science, fraud prevention, compliance, and finance teams. You'll have real influence on Twitch's revenue trajectory and direct visibility to senior leadership.
This is also a strong growth role. You'll report to a senior level engineering leader, gain exposure to cross‑organizational strategy, and have the opportunity to expand your scope as the team and business grow.
You Will- Lead a team of engineers to design, build, and operate full‑stack web applications that process millions of transactions daily
- Own your team's delivery end‑to‑end: roadmap planning, execution, and operational excellence
- Grow senior engineers in their careers: coach, challenge, and create opportunities for promotion
- Make hands‑on architectural decisions: you'll be in design reviews, weighing tradeoffs on vendor integrations, system resilience, and data accuracy
- Partner cross‑functionally with product, finance, and compliance to shape what we build and why
- Navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities while keeping your team focused and energized
- Medical, Dental, Vision & Disability Insurance
- 401(k)
- Maternity & Parental Leave
- Flexible PTO
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager leading teams of 5+
- 5+ years of experience in software development
- Experience with web services, cloud infrastructure, and system design
- Track record of hiring, retaining, and growing engineering talent
- Experience operating consumer‑facing web applications with high reliability requirements
- Experience using Agile methodologies to deliver iteratively
- Background as a Senior/Staff Engineer designing and operating distributed systems in production
- Familiarity with payment systems, financial infrastructure, or e‑commerce platforms
- Experience with Go, React, or AWS services
- Experience with Twitch, either as a viewer or creator (or both!)
