The Senior Staff Software Engineer role plays a key technical multiplier, delivering architectural excellence across our cloud organization and ensuring resilient, AI‑augmented, high‑performance cloud infrastructure.
Location & Work ArrangementMinneapolis, MN. Hybrid: onsite 3 days a week at the Minneapolis office.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with leadership to align a 2‑3 year technical roadmap for cloud infrastructure and evaluate build‑vs‑buy scenarios for core platform components.
- Lead evolution of the Smart Things Schema and Cloud‑to‑Cloud (C2C) integration layers, ensuring low‑latency, secure, highly scalable interfaces with external ecosystems such as Alexa, Google Home, and Matter‑over‑Bridge.
- Standardize implementation of AI‑augmented engineering, guiding the use of LLM‑based coding assistants and automated agentic workflows to compress the SDLC without compromising security or architecture.
- Drive adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to bridge cloud data silos and AI agents, optimizing internal tools and documentation for autonomous debugging and discovery.
- Serve as guardian of system blast radius by implementing Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and error budgets that balance innovation pace with high availability.
- Partner with security teams to embed Zero Trust and Secure‑by‑Design principles; ensure compliance with global privacy standards (GDPR, CCPA).
- Champion the RFC culture, providing rigorous, ego‑free feedback on high‑impact designs and evaluating impact on the broader AI‑agent ecosystem and partner integrations.
- 10+ years of relevant experience, with at least 2‑3 years in technical leadership across multiple teams.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Deep proficiency in OAuth2, JWT, and Webhooks for secure partner authentication and event‑driven architectures.
- Proven experience designing and scaling Cloud‑to‑Cloud connectors and public‑facing APIs.
- Understanding of third‑party ecosystem integration requirements (Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home Kit/Matter).
- Proficiency in AI‑native development environments (Cursor, Claude, or Git Hub Copilot) and coaching engineers on prompt engineering for agentic workflows.
- Knowledge of Model Context Protocol (MCP) for AI‑model communication with data sources.
- Advanced understanding of CAP theorem, distributed locking, and eventual consistency in high‑concurrency IoT environments.
- Hands‑on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP—Serverless, Container Orchestration (K8s), and Global Traffic Management.
- Ability to discern AI hype from genuine architectural value and manage technical debt with automation.
- Exceptional ability to distill complex designs into concise executive summaries.
- Competitive compensation (Base $165,000‑$235,000) plus 20% annual target bonus.
