The Engineering Manager for Web Experience & Security leads the team responsible for delivering exceptional digital experiences across the public-facing web platform — including user flows and journeys, web usability, content engineering, security implementation, and page performance. This is a backfill role being elevated to require a genuine engineering background, in line with the organization’s commitment to building an engineering-first culture across all web domain teams.
This manager owns a dedicated slice of the single prioritized backlog, runs a full‑stack engineering team, and is accountable for both delivery velocity and technical quality. They partner closely with the Annuity and Life Products, Integration & Platform, Self‑Service & Engagement, and Architecture domain leads to ensure web capabilities are coherent, reusable, and performant across the entire digital platform.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Web Modernization within the Digital & Ops Modernization organization.
What You Do Web user experience & journeys- Own end‑to‑end engineering delivery for user flows, journeys, and experience design across the web platform, ensuring experiences are intuitive, accessible, and optimized for financial professionals and policyholders

- Drive web accessibility compliance (WCAG 2.1 AA minimum) as a first‑class engineering requirement, not an afterthought
- Own Core Web Vitals and page performance and particularly the Policy Details page and other high‑traffic customer‑facing experiences with systematic profiling, optimization, and monitoring built into the definition of done
- Establish frontend engineering standards and component library governance in partnership with the Architecture domain
- Own web security engineering; including authentication flows, session management, HTTPS enforcement, Content Security Policy (CSP), and input validation
- Implement and maintain security controls that meet regulatory and audit requirements for a financial services digital platform
- Own the vulnerability remediation and security patching cadence for the web layer, working with enterprise security teams on penetration testing and review outcomes
- Ensure security is embedded in the definition of done and code reviews include security considerations and no release ships with known critical or high vulnerabilities
- Coordinate with enterprise security architects on web‑specific compliance obligations and emerging threat landscapes
- Own the technical foundations of the CMS platform, infrastructure, integrations, content delivery performance, and publishing workflow engineering
- Enable non‑technical content authors with reliable, well‑documented publishing tools that don’t require engineering intervention for standard updates
- Maintain structured content models, SEO and GEO technical foundations, and metadata standards across the platform
- Partner with marketing and communications stakeholders to ensure content tooling meets business needs without compromising platform stability
- Lead a full‑stack engineering team, recruiting, developing, and retaining engineers who can work across UI, integration, and platform layers
- Actively participate in technical decisions and conduct code reviews, challenge architectural choices, and shape solutions alongside the team rather than managing from a distance
- Establish and enforce a strong engineering culture: code review discipline, tech debt budget per sprint, shared definition of done, and blameless post‑mortems
- Run agile ceremonies with full context on the sprint, the codebase, and the team — planning, refinement, retros, and demos that drive genuine improvement
- Own the team’s slice of the single prioritized backlog, ensuring stories are ready, sequenced, and aligned to the digital org’s corporate goals and product launch timelines
- Use delivery metrics; velocity, lead time, cycle time, and defect escape rate as coaching tools to improve team performance, not just as reporting…
