Data Engineer

Payrate: $55.00 - $59.50/hr join our dynamic team responsible for building the measurement, reporting, and insights platform that powers Best Buy Ads and the broader Retail Media Network. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance data solutions. You will work on enhancing data pipelines, APIs, and cloud-based services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) while contributing to the architecture and implementation of measurement platforms.

This position is hybrid, requiring some days on site at the Best Buy location and some days working virtually from home.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable batch/streaming data pipelines on Google Cloud.
• Develop and operate reliable data pipelines and DAGs using Apache Airflow/Cloud Composer for batch and near-real-time workflows.
• Build ELT/ETL on GCP services, enforcing coding, testing, and observability standards.
• Write expert-level SQL for modeling, complex transformations, windowing functions, and performance tuning.
• Develop Python data components, packaging, and CI/CD for deployment to Composer/Dataflow.
• Work with Big Data ecosystems and MPP warehouses, supporting data ingestion, schema evolution, and partitioning/clustering strategies.
• Integrate Postgres sources/targets.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, and platform teams to uphold security, compliance, data quality, and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience with SQL.
• 3 years of experience with Apache Airflow (Cloud Composer).
• 3 years of experience with GCP (Big Query, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, GCS, Composer).
• 5 years of experience with Python.
• 5 years of experience with Big Data (warehousing/processing concepts, performance).
• 3 years of experience with Postgres.

Skills

• Experience in the ads domain.
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand and solve problems efficiently.
• Preventing data quality issues before they impact users.
• Ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple requests.

Pay Transparency:
The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $55.00 - $59.50 /hour. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience.
