Pre-Market Software Reliability Engineering Manager – Mounds View, MN

Manage and lead a team of pre‑market software reliability, safety, and supplier quality engineers to ensure Medtronic’s products meet rigorous safety and reliability requirements for patients, clinicians, regulators, and the business. Provide technical leadership across cross‑functional R&D teams and serve as the focal point for reliability and safety functions.

• Manage direct reports and dotted‑line reports, including budget, resource, and project management.
• Recruit, hire, and onboard new team resources.
• Coach and mentor staff; manage performance and development plans.
• Define and lead initiatives to improve team capabilities and efficiencies.
• Work cross‑functionally with project teams to plan R&D budgets and staff those teams.
• Review team deliverables and provide management review of QMS deliverables.
• Participate in design for reliability (DfR), risk reviews, and software design and testing activities.
• Lead the team in maintaining compliance with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971 and related standards.

• Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) and a minimum of 7 years of technical experience, or an advanced degree with 5 years of technical experience and 5 years of managerial experience.
• Experience in software reliability engineering: design for reliability, fault‑tolerant design, software FMEA/FTA, and reliability growth modeling.
• Experience with software testing (manual and automated) and Dev Ops processes.
• Familiarity with medical device regulatory requirements and standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
• Strong project management skills and ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
• Proficiency in spreadsheets and project management tools.

• Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) or equivalent certification.
• Experience with software fault‑tolerant design, design for testability, and software reliability models including reliability growth models.
• Experience designing, maintaining, or supporting released software or software systems, including mobile applications and cloud‑based services.
• Experience with Agile or behavior‑driven development.
• Experience in medical devices or regulated industry.
• Knowledge of DFSS, DFLS, DRM or other robust design practices.

• Location:
  
  Mounds View, MN – Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) unit.
• Work on site 4 days per week.
• Travel: less than 10% of time.
