The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
  • Designing, coding, and maintaining automated tests for server-side software components, APIs, services, and integrations.
  • Developing and enhancing reusable automation frameworks, test utilities, mock services, and validation tools.
  • Appling security best practices, including encryption and secure communications, across system design and implementation.
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing software performance, reliability, and interoperability across hardware and software interfaces.
  • Identifying, documenting, troubleshooting, and tracking software defects in collaboration with development teams.
  • Providing technical leadership on a cross-functional team and contribute to engineering best practices appropriate for a mid-senior level role.
Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of software development experience including coding automated tests for server-side or backend software systems in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience testing APIs, services, databases, and distributed software systems.
  • Have a working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
  • Experience with C/C++ and embedded applications.
  • Understanding of low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi
  • Ability to work effectively across a broad technology stack and to coordinate with external development resources.
  • Proficiency with AI software development tools

    This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

The expected compensation range for this position is $145,676 - $178,049, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
