Nature of Work
HOURS

Work hours will range from approximately 28-40 hours per week based on operational needs and staffing levels. Shifts may include early mornings, days, evenings, and weekends between 5:45 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. This position is seasonal and temporary in nature.

Overtime is paid for hours worked in excess of 48 hours per workweek.

NATURE OF WORK
Under the general supervision of the Facility Manager and reporting directly to a Recreation Supervisor, this position is responsible for the daily operation of the outdoor municipal pool and aquatic features. Duties include overseeing lifeguard services, front-of-house admissions, and concession operations; ensuring the facility is properly staffed, clean, safe, and in compliance with health and safety regulations; supervising staff performance; maintaining water quality and mechanical systems;

managing daily receipts and deposits; and addressing operational issues and patron concerns to ensure an efficient and positive customer experience. This position requires sound judgment, strong leadership, and the ability to make timely decisions in matters affecting public safety and facility operations.

Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide adequate staffing for daily facility operations.
  • Develop and conduct staff orientation and in-service training.
  • Supervise staff performance, provide coaching, address performance concerns, and complete written evaluations prior to the end of the season.
  • Prepare staff schedules, monitor attendance, complete timekeeping, and adjust staffing levels based on operational needs and weather conditions.
  • Review group reservation schedules, accident reports, and water rescue reports.
  • Prepare bank deposits, complete daily cash reports, and maintain accurate accounting of funds for change and daily receipts.
  • Oversee concession operations, including staff training, food preparation procedures, cleanliness, inventory control, and proper product storage.
  • Monitor mechanical systems and pool water operations; complete daily water testing and log sheets; maintain proper water levels; and inspect circulation, chemical, and filtration equipment.
  • Provide quality customer service by assisting patrons, enforcing facility rules and policies, explaining policies as needed, and resolving patron concerns or complaints.
  • Ensure patron safety by enforcing facility rules and coordinating safety practices with swim teams and user groups.
  • Inspect facility cleanliness, including restrooms, changing areas, pool deck, picnic, and concession areas; ensure closing cleaning and disinfecting procedures are completed.
  • Maintain records and complete required reports related to facility operations.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff and the public.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • At least one (1) year post-secondary education.
  • At least two (2) seasons working within an aquatic environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in recreational programming or facility operations.
  • Previous experience as a lifeguard or head lifeguard.
  • Customer service experience in a public-facing setting.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, or other non-English languages commonly spoken in the City of Richfield.
Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is required for considerable physical activity, including moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment. Ability to work in the heat and sun is required.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Must have the ability to:
  • Stand, walk, kneel, sit, crouch, twist, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, squat, and lift materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
  • Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Hearing and speech must be sufficient to communicate in person, by telephone, and by radio.
