The Class A OTR Truck Driver is responsible for operating tractor-trailer combinations to transport freight over long distances to the Upper Midwest and Canada. This overnight union driving position involves minimal freight handling and requires adherence to safety regulations, company policies, and shipping instructions.
Compensation and Benefits
* Annual first-year compensation: $100,000 - $130,000, depending on hours and mileage
* 100% of health & wellness premiums paid by the company for employee and family, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage ($18,000/yr)
* Employer contributions to 401(k) plan: $11,000/yr
* Pay increases annually per Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)
* Benefit eligibility after completing 60 trips
Essential Functions of the Role
* Operate tractor-trailer combinations safely and efficiently over long distances
* Transport and deliver freight according to schedule and shipping instructions
* Drop, hook, spot, or interchange equipment for loading or unloading at various locations
* Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment
* Read and follow manifests, bills of lading, and other shipping documents to ensure proper delivery
* Communicate effectively with dispatch and supervisors regarding deliveries and any issues
* Maintain compliance with federal, state, and company safety regulations
* Work overnight shifts with loads departing between 5:00 PM and 2:00 AM
* Weekend work required, with top drivers per union schedule potentially exempt
Required Qualifications and Skills
* Valid CDL-A license
* Minimum of 2 years of Class A commercial driving experience
* Clean driving record
* Legally eligible to cross the Canadian border preferred
* Ability to work overnight shifts and weekends as required
* Strong communication and time management skills
* Knowledge of federal and state transportation regulations
* Experience in transporting perishable goods or produce a plus
Physical Requirements
* Ability to sit for extended periods and perform safe vehicle operation
* Ability to load/unload light freight if required
* Capability to perform vehicle inspections and secure cargo safely
