Purpose of the Position

The Supervisor, Rail Testing plays a critical role in protecting the safety and reliability of CPKC's rail network by operating advanced ultrasonic testing equipment to detect rail defects. By accurately assessing and reporting test results, this role drives timely rail replacement decisions that help prevent failures and ensure safe, uninterrupted train operations.

Position Accountabilities
  • Drive CPKC owned vehicle and rental cars to locations to perform daily testing
  • Work as a team to ensure truck is fully staffed throughout the year
  • Operate and maintain CPKC owned ultrasonic rail testing equipment on various segments on their assigned territory
  • Calibrate and ensure equipment is up to standards to perform quality inspections
  • Responsible for daily contact with the Roadmaster for collaborative ways to keep Rail Flaw Detection equipment on schedule and hit production targets
  • Take track protection and abide by all safety rules to ensure everyone goes home safe
  • Perform quality work to ensure the safe passage of trains in compliance with the Red Book by issuing the appropriate protective slow orders
  • Required to be on call on a regular basis outside of normal business hours and workdays
  • Work 2 weeks ON and 1 week OFF schedule (travel required to get to work and back home)
Position Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Commercial driver's License
  • Previous railroad experience
  • Instrumentation and testing experience in other disciplines
  • High proficiency in using a computer and troubleshooting ability
  • Proficiency in using tools to make mechanical repairs to equipment
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Medical and drug testing:
    This is a safety sensitive position and a successful pre‑employment medical assessment including physical, vision, hearing, and a negative company drug test is required. Post hire qualification drug testing may also be required.
  • Background investigation:
    Criminal history check, education verification, professional references, driver's license verification and driving history
