We are looking to add dedicated team members to keep the runways at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport clear for departure. In the winter months, this team is busy clearing snow from runways, taxiways, roadways, terminals, and public areas. When the snow is not falling, Airport Maintenance Workers are busy with groundskeeping, mowing, trash removal, fence installation, concrete, masonry, and asphalt repairs, and other duties that keep the airport looking great.

and Pay Differentials
  • Hiring pay range: $31.575 - $34.738/hour
  • +$0.60/hour
    - Class A CDL
    -OR- +$.40/hour
    - Forklift Certification
  • +1.25/hour - 2nd Shift (Afternoon, Weekend Afternoon)
  • +$2.00/hour - 3rd Shift (Night)

Wages and pay differentials listed above are based on 2025 rates. Contract negotiations for 2026 wages and pay differentials are in progress and the outcome may affect these rates.

Current Shifts
  • Day:
    Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Afternoon:
    Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
  • Night:
    Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
  • Weekend Day:
    Saturday – Wednesday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Weekend Afternoon:
    Saturday – Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

Shift assignments are bid twice each calendar year, based on seniority. New employees typically start on the day shift, then transfer to the night shift for the training period before moving to their assigned shift.

In addition to competitive hourly wages, Airport Maintenance Workers can also earn overtime. Employees in this position may be eligible for annual incentive pay of up to 10% of total compensation depending on organizational performance.

Summary of Duties

Primarily performs maintenance duties to FAA standards, including skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain the airport’s airfields, grounds, and roadway maintenance functions. Work may be in close proximity to aircraft operations. Typical duties include snow and ice control on airfields and in public areas such as roadways and terminal areas. Tasks include groundskeeping, concrete and asphalt pavement and masonry repairs, truck driving, mowing, weed control, fence installation and repair, garbage removal, and general cleanup of the airfield and public areas.

The position is represented by the Minnesota Teamsters Public and Law Enforcement Employees’ Union, Local 320. This position requires at least a Class B commercial driver’s license. This is a safety-sensitive position and will require a pre-employment drug screen.

  • Desirable: Possession of a Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement; previous field maintenance experience at MSP or another airport; two years of work experience operating commercial-rated vehicles, heavy equipment, and/or large agricultural machinery; experience in snow removal operations; pavement maintenance; landscaping or parks maintenance; chemical applications related to groundskeeping; commercial property maintenance; experience with two-way radio equipment.
