    Position Summary

    The Job Cost Accountant supports the financial management of highway heavy construction projects by partnering closely with Project Managers to ensure accurate job cost tracking, forecasting, and change order processing. This role reports directly to the Controller and serves as a key financial resource for project teams, with a primary focus on job cost integrity, cost-to-complete reporting, and change order support within Viewpoint Vista.

    Key Responsibilities Job Costing & Project Financial Support
    • Maintain accurate job cost records for highway, bridge, grading, and utility projects.
    • Partner with Project Managers to review job cost reports, identify variances, and monitor cost trends.
    • Assist with cost-to-complete updates and job margin analysis.
    • Ensure costs are properly coded, posted, and allocated in Vista in accordance with company standards.
    Change Order Support (Vista)
    • Support the change order process in Viewpoint Vista, including setup, tracking, and posting of approved changes.
    • Work with Project Managers to ensure change orders are accurately reflected in job budgets and forecasts.
    • Assist in reconciling pending, approved, and billed change orders to job cost reports.
    • Ensure change order documentation aligns with internal controls and reporting requirements.
    Financial Reporting & Controls
    • Prepare and review job cost reports for internal management and project review meetings.
    • Assist with month-end close activities related to job cost, WIP, and revenue recognition.
    • Support the Controller with audit requests, reconciliations, and financial analysis related to projects.
    • Help ensure compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and GAAP as related to job costing.
    Collaboration & Process Improvement
    • Serve as a financial liaison between Accounting and Project Management teams.
    • Assist in training Project Managers on job cost reporting, change order workflows, and Vista best practices.
    • Identify opportunities to improve job cost accuracy, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
    Position Requirements Required
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • 2+ years of job cost accounting experience in highway heavy, heavy civil, or construction environment.
    • Working knowledge of job cost accounting principles and construction financial reporting.
    • Experience with Viewpoint Vista or similar construction accounting software.
    • Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large data sets.
    Preferred
    • Experience supporting DOT, municipal, or public works projects.
    • Familiarity with WIP schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
    • Prior experience working directly with Project Managers in a field-focused environment.
