Job Description

Job Summary:

The Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the agency, including payroll, accounts receivable and payable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting. This role supports the mission and values of ABLE, Inc. through accurate and timely accounting functions and collaboration with internal departments. The Accountant II demonstrates strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting Functions (AR/AP/Payroll):
  • Process full-cycle payroll, including status changes, timesheet reviews, deductions, and tax filings.
  • Verify payroll summaries for accuracy of payee, hours, deductions, and pay amounts.
  • Maintain payroll-related spreadsheets (PLT, holiday worked, scheduled hours, benefits, 401k, etc.).
  • Process accounts receivable, accounts payable, and purchase orders.
  • Submit requests for intrafund transfers.
  • Reconcile the general ledger and all bank accounts monthly.
  • Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
  • Submit accurate billing to state and county funding sources.
  • Coordinate with program staff to reconcile people supported’s bank accounts.
  • Review and allocate vehicle mileage logs.
  • Maintain and generate year-end fixed asset reports.
  • Prepare and present monthly financials for Board review.
  • Perform all required year-end financial and reporting activities.

Training & Compliance:
  • Interpret and apply personnel policies and financial procedures in accordance with the ABLE, Inc. Employee Handbook.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of emergency and safety protocols.
Facility Support:
  • Report maintenance or facility issues promptly.
  • Follow agency safety and security procedures and use equipment responsibly.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting required;
    Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (Quick Books).
  • High level of organization, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Must work respectfully with coworkers, people supported, and the public.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally if needed.
Training Requirements:
  • Completion of agency orientation and onboarding
  • Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction Plan (AWAIR) training
  • Ongoing participation in professional development and compliance training

Work is typically performed in an office environment with occasional travel to agency homes or programs. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate with teams across various departments.

Occasional local travel to agency homes or meetings may be required.

Physical Requirements and Demands:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., file boxes, office supplies).
