Job Description
U. S. Steel is seeking an Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant III provides high-level administrative, organizational, and operational support to the Minntac and Keetac mining operations. This role is critical to ensuring the effective coordination of leadership activities across a large, complex mining organization. The position requires exceptional organizational capability, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment supporting approximately 2,000 employees across mine, plant, maintenance, and support functions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Executive & Calendar Management
* Manage and prioritize the General Manager's calendar to align with operational priorities
* Coordinate internal and external meetings, including:
* Weekly GM staff meetings
* Leadership reviews
* Corporate and stakeholder engagements
* Arrange travel, site visits, and logistics
* Anticipate scheduling conflicts and proactively resolve issues
2. Meeting Coordination
* Coordinate all aspects of leadership meetings:
* Scheduling and logistics
* Agenda preparation
* Material development and distribution
* Prepare presentations and briefing materials
* Capture meeting notes, key decisions, and action items
* Maintain and track action logs to ensure follow-through and accountability
3. Operational & Administrative Support
* Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly reports
* Maintain organized records, files, and documentation for the GM office
* Support consistency in communication across departments
* Assist in development and formatting of presentations, memos, and reports
4. Communication & Information Management
* Act as a central coordination point between the General Manager and:
* Operations leadership (Mine, Plant)
* Maintenance and Engineering
* Safety and Environmental teams
* HR, Finance, and Supply Chain
* Screen, prioritize, and manage incoming communications
* Ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information
5. Event & Site Visit Coordination
* Plan and coordinate:
* Executive and corporate leadership visits
* Regulatory and stakeholder tours
* Internal leadership events
* Develop agendas, coordinate logistics, and manage site access requirements
* Ensure professional execution of all visits
6. Office Operations & Administrative Coordination
* Support the daily operation of the GM office, including:
* Office supplies and materials
* Coordination of onboarding needs (technology, access, scheduling)
* Training scheduling and logistics
* Maintain efficient and standardized administrative processes
7. Leadership Support & Anticipation of Needs
* Anticipate the needs of the General Manager and leadership team
* Prepare briefing materials to support decision-making
* Identify potential risks in scheduling, communication, or coordination
* Enable leadership focus on safety, operations, and strategic priorities

Qualifications
Education
* High School Diploma or equivalent required
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience
* Minimum 5 years administrative or executive support experience
* Experience supporting senior leadership preferred
* Experience in industrial, mining, or manufacturing environments preferred
