Position Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Dirt Foreman to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in earthwork operations, including grading, excavation, and utility installation for highway and heavy civil projects. This role requires leadership, organization, and hands-on management of field crews to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of dirt crews on highway and heavy civil construction projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications to ensure proper execution.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Oversee excavation, grading, and compaction activities to meet project specifications.
- Operate and manage heavy equipment as needed to support operations.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of crew work, material usage, and project progress.
- Train, mentor, and lead crew members to maximize productivity and morale.
- Troubleshoot job site issues and develop effective solutions to keep projects on schedule.
Qualifications:
- Union Membership: Must be a current member in good standing.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in highway heavy construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role with extensive knowledge of earthmoving operations, soil conditions, and compaction requirements.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead diverse teams and foster a collaborative environment.
- Safety Focus: Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe construction practices.
- Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with crews, management, and clients.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills to address challenges effectively.
