Position Summary
The Contract Labor Inspector provides field inspection services to support engineering and construction projects by ensuring work performed by contractors complies with project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards. This part‑time, contract position involves regular visits to project sites, documenting progress, identifying deficiencies, and communicating observations to the engineering project team and contractors.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform onsite inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, contracts and applicable codes and regulations.
- Observe workmanship, materials and construction methods to ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, field notes, photographs and documentation of project activities.
- Identify construction deficiencies, deviations or potential concerns and communicate findings to project managers and contractors.
- Monitor project progress and report status updates, delays or issues requiring attention.
- Verify quantities of work completed and assist with documentation supporting contractor payments, as assigned.
- Attend project meetings and provide updates regarding inspection findings and field conditions.
- Promote and monitor compliance with job site safety requirements and immediately report unsafe conditions.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, utility providers and governmental agencies when necessary.
- Perform other inspection‑related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or coursework in construction, engineering technology or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in construction inspection, public works, utilities, roadway construction, commercial construction or a related field preferred.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document field observations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in the field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email and mobile devices used for reporting and documentation.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements
Position requires frequent travel to construction sites and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs or ladders when necessary, and stand or walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols.
Employment StatusPart‑time contract position. Hours will vary based on project needs, construction schedules and inspection requirements. This position is not guaranteed a minimum number of hours and may require flexible scheduling, including early morning or occasional extended hours to accommodate project activities.
