• Find a script that is appropriate for the students and the community
• Secure rights and materials
• Script analysis, scene breakdown, character analysis, historical research, outline basic blocking
• Work within budget, time, and talent restrictions
• Assemble a production team
• Facilitate regular production meetings
• Create and develop artistic concepts for every element of the design - i.e. set, props, costumes, lighting, sound, publicity, etc.
• Communicate artistic concepts to creative team
• Create rehearsal schedules for music, dance, and acting
• Choose and provide audition materials
• Oversee the audition and casting process in collaboration with the Choreographer and Music Director
• Ensure all material is learned, taught, and rehearsed
• Communicate schedules and changes to students and parents
• Run rehearsals and performances in a productive way that utilizes everyone's time wisely
• Maintain the budget
• Coordinate with creative team in all areas of the show during rehearsal process
• Manage creative team and ensure everyone has what they need to be successful
• Create a positive culture and a safe environment that promotes student growth and development
• Help students navigate personal conflicts and issues
• Oversee stage management team to run a successful production
• Lend a hand in other areas - wherever help is needed
• Teach stage makeup techniques
• Teach stage combat when necessary (or arrange for another teaching artist to do so)
• Coordinate and run tech rehearsals
• Communicate with publicity team to make sure that all legal information is included in all advertisements and program
• Clean up the space and secure it after every rehearsal and performance
• Oversee strike
• Return any and all materials necessary (scripts, anything borrowed, etc.)
• Ensure students are actively supervised during all practices and performances
• Work with SMS administration on performance schedules to secure facilities and expectations of staff and students during practices and performances
