Job Title:

Job Captain / Architectural Designer

Job Description

This role combines creative architectural design with hands-on production leadership to deliver high-quality projects across workplace, retail, tenant improvement, industrial, and healthcare environments. You will develop design concepts, produce detailed construction documents in Revit, and coordinate with clients, consultants, and project teams to ensure timely, accurate, and code-compliant project delivery. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to all phases of design, mentor junior staff, and grow within a collaborative, cross-functional healthcare-focused design consulting practice.

Responsibilities

+ Develop and creatively design architectural concepts for a variety of client projects, including workplace, retail, tenant improvement, industrial, and healthcare facilities.

+ Prepare, produce, and manage Revit drawings to document architectural designs from concept through construction documents.

+ Interface directly with clients on design issues, gather requirements, and develop architectural solutions that align with project goals.

+ Develop, modify, and review production drawings and construction documents, ensuring accuracy and updating documents as required.

+ Create solutions for basic to moderate architectural design problems, balancing design quality, constructability, and project constraints.

+ Assist with master planning, site planning, and building planning and design using 2D and 3D modeling tools and digital presentation packages.

+ Provide creative design direction during conceptual and schematic design phases, contributing ideas and options for client review.

+ Perform design computations, develop specifications, and compile data for basic to complex architectural assignments.

+ Review applicable building codes and conduct zoning analyses to ensure that all designs comply with minimum legal and regulatory standards.

+ Support the construction administration phase by reviewing shop drawings, maintaining a master log of project submittals, and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs) and Supplemental Information (SIs).

+ Prepare and assist with change directives and other construction-related documentation as needed.

+ Produce finished material sample boards and graphic presentations to support client meetings and internal design reviews.

+ Collaborate with and coordinate outside disciplines, including civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, and other consultants, to integrate their work into architectural designs.

+ Ensure timely and effective management and delivery of drawings and documentation so that project goals, milestones, and objectives are met.

+ Assist Project Managers and Architects with oversight of basic to moderate complexity projects, including scheduling and production planning.

+ Mentor associates and junior staff members on architectural design concepts, Revit production, and project processes to foster a learning and growth-oriented environment.

+ Stay current with evolving graphic standards, building construction methods, and industry best practices.

+ Research construction materials and systems to support design decisions, specifications, and project detailing.

+ Run projects from a production and detailing standpoint, particularly focusing on construction documents (CDs) and coordination.

+ Support broker-based and client relationship-driven projects by responding promptly to requests, adapting to changing priorities, and maintaining a high level of service.

Essential Skills

+ 2-5 years of experience at an Architectural Designer I or Job Captain level, or 3-10 years of experience for candidates focused on production, design details, and running projects through construction documents.

+ Proficiency in Revit with strong production and technical skills for creating and managing architectural drawings.

+ Above-average architectural design skills and strong organizational abilities.

+ Demonstrated experience with construction documents and drafting for architectural projects.

+ Experience in project coordination and project management within the architecture industry, including managing multiple…
