The Department of German f College invites applications for a part-time (.83 FTE), one-year position in German at the level of Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor, to begin August 2026. This position has the potential for additional years of reappointment.
We seek a candidate with exceptional teaching qualifications, commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education, and readiness to offer students a critical, socially engaged, transdisciplinary and inclusive German Studies to meet global challenges. The area of expertise is open. Teaching responsibilities include German language courses at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, and 1 German or Germanic culture course (e.g., German film and art, Germanic fairy tales, modern German history) taught in English.
The teaching load is 5 courses spaced 2 in fall semester, 1 during January term, and 2 in spring semester.
The successful candidate will work closely with permanent faculty and have an interest in student outreach. The German Department encourages a collaborative approach with cooperation among faculty teaching different sections of the same language course level. The department also sponsors an active co-curricular program, including a German Residential Learning Community, German Choir, Delta Phi Alpha German Honor Society, weekly Stammtisch, and German Advent Service.
Support is available for faculty research and professional development.
Salary: $49,800 - $53,950
Qualifications
Minimum requirement of an MA in German Studies or related field, with native or near-native competence in German.
