NRHEG Public School is looking for a licensed special education teacher for the school. This individual will also be responsible for supporting individualized education plans, meeting specific goals and objectives, and following through on behavior support plans. To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Work is performed under the supervision of the principal and special education director.
- Serve as an IEP case manager.
- Work as a team member in IEP meetings. Help facilitate team meetings to review student progress and develop IEP as related to student needs.
- Plan and implement appropriate educational programs for individuals.
- Implement educational plans as described on individual IEP's and provide information for building staff as needed.
- Maintain appropriate records and reports. Collect data on progress on goals and objectives for each student and meet all required timelines.
- Develop, coordinate, and evaluate transition related experiences for students, if applicable.
- Provide work direction to paraprofessional staff members.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, educators, and administrators regarding student programs and progress.
- Collaborate with students, families, related service providers, outside agencies, and other team members to promote growth of each student.
- Create and maintain a professional working relationship with families and staff.
- Obtain and demonstrate knowledge of general education curriculum including the grade level outcomes and state standards.
- Assist special education team with assessments, comprehensive report results, and follow Minnesota state criteria in area(s) of special education eligibility as well as mandated timelines.
- Participate in building and District-level professional development activities.
- Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities in certification areas as directed by administration.
- Demonstrates a willingness to examine and implement change when appropriate.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
- Participate in appropriate professional activities.
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related field.
- Minnesota certification in teaching in the appropriate subject area.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.
- Occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Stand for up to one hour at a time.
- Stoop and bend.
- Reach and grasp objects.
- Exhibit manual dexterity or fine motor skills.
- Possess the ability to talk, hear, and see.
- Work in a normal school environment with few physical discomforts.
