The 5th–12th Grade Band Teacher is responsible for leading and developing the instrumental music program across middle and high school grade levels. This position involves teaching instrumental music, developing students' musical and technical skills, and preparing ensembles for performances. The Band Teacher collaborates with other music staff, provides individual and group instruction, and fosters a lifelong appreciation for music among students.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITYJob Requirements:
- Plan and conduct group band rehearsals for multiple ensembles, including 5th grade, 6th grade, junior high, and senior high bands.
- Provide small group or sectional instruction, particularly for beginning band students.
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with state music standards and varying skill levels.
- Teach instrumental technique, music theory, and ensemble performance skills.
- Prepare students for concerts, contests, pep band events, festivals, and other performances.
- Evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback to support growth.
- Encourage and support student participation in honor bands, solo and ensemble events, and other advanced musical opportunities.
- Collaborate with music staff, instructional staff, parents, and community members to support student learning and program goals.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of instruments, equipment, and music.
- Coordinate instrument maintenance and repairs, including minor repairs as needed.
- Order supplies, instruments, and music necessary for the band program.
- Develop and maintain a band calendar of events in coordination with school staff.
- Manage program records, billing for supplies or rentals, and fundraising activities.
- Secure and supervise transportation for students attending performances and events.
- Represent the band program at school or district meetings as assigned.

- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument, with the ability to play multiple instruments at a basic level.
- Strong knowledge of instrumental music education, music theory, and ensemble performance practices.
- Understanding of music curriculum standards and student performance assessment methods.
- Ability to plan, organize, and adapt instruction to meet individual and group needs.
- Experience leading instrumental rehearsals and directing performances.
- Proficiency in using music education technology and instructional tools.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administration.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing instructional and program needs.
- Familiarity with district policies, procedures, and educational standards.
This position is not responsible for the supervision of other District employees.
Working Environment:Duties are generally performed in a typical classroom or school setting with minimal environmental hazards and risks.
Physical requirements include:- Standing, using hands dexterously, reaching with hands and arms, and lifting to 50 pounds.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Music Education or a related field.
- Licensed Music Teacher in the State of Minnesota.
