High School Social Studies Teacher Grades 9-12
1.0 FTE - Social Studies Grades 9-12. Current courses will include World History and Civics, but could change from year to year.
Prefer High School Social Studies Certification but alternate certificates/licensures will be considered upon application.
Secondary teachers are responsible for teaching approved state/district curriculum subjects to students in grades 5-12. Teachers support, observe and record the progress of their class. They also plan lessons in line with state objectives, with the aim of ensuring a healthy culture of learning. A secondary school teacher must keep up to date with developments in their subject area, new resources, methods and district initiatives.
The role involves communication and networking with other professionals, parents and caregivers, both informally and formally.
- Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students.
- Teaches District/State Approved Curriculum
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the designated times
- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
- Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students.
- Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps timely and appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students involved.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Accommodates and modifies instructional materials to meet the needs students on IEP's, 504's, ILP's, etc. as required by law.
- Commits to the goals and objectives set forth by the district to promote a process of continuous growth using the current accreditation process.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Supervises classroom, students, volunteers, and other classroom support staff.
- All other duties as assigned
- Must possess, or be able to acquire and maintain, proper certification as established by state law, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), and Education Standards and Practices Board certification.
- Must be aware of current trends and developments in education.
- Must possess related training and/or experience.
- Must possess leadership qualities.
- Practice and support the philosophy of servant leadership.
- Be a strong, decisive team leader who is willing to seek input and able to create an environment where others are empowered and motivated to achieve.
- Possess excellent written, public speaking, and interpersonal communication skills.
This position falls under the teacher contract. Compensation and calendar are based on the Professional Negotiated Agreement.
EVALUATIONPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with Central Cass School District policies.
