Special Education Teacher—EBD

Cologne Academy (Pre Kindergarten‑8th Grade Public School) is located in Carver County, MN and enrolls approximately 750 students between onsite and virtual academy. The school offers an enriched learning experience through the Core Knowledge curriculum and an individualized approach to learning. Cologne Academy seeks professional educators who are passionate about contributing to its mission and vision, which focuses on academics and character development.

Qualifications
  • Licensed or licensable in Minnesota – EBD or ABS with relevant experience or training
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with families and staff
  • Experience or training in IEP writing, conducting evaluations, and continuous progress monitoring
Position Description

The EBD teacher is responsible for meeting the instructional and social/emotional/behavioral needs of students in kindergarten through 8th grade who have moderate to significant needs and spend between 25% and 70% of their school day in the EBD classroom. The majority of students fall in the federal setting 2 range of needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide services based on individual needs in areas such as social skills, behavior regulation, and academics.
  • Develop and implement IEPs that address each child’s unique needs.
  • Use evidence‑based practices and assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction and services as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with related service providers.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services – initial and re‑evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate records, including assessment data, progress reports, and other required documentation for compliance.
  • Train, supervise, and support paraprofessionals regarding the specific needs of the children on the teacher’s caseloads; manage classroom assignments for service delivery.
  • Provide necessary information to general education teachers so students can participate safely and successfully, including responsibilities of paraprofessionals, progress monitoring data, and behavior plan training.
  • Team with the behavior interventionist to develop and implement behavior support plans.
  • In collaboration with the behavior interventionist, train all team members on implementation with fidelity and define progress monitoring tools and responsibilities.
  • Visit classrooms regularly to ensure services meet students’ needs.
  • Work with classroom teachers to modify expectations for classwork and assignments based on individual student needs.
  • Create and implement communication systems with families.
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Special Education Teacher to identify curricula and instructional materials relevant to each student’s needs and participate in training on available instructional resources.
  • Participate in professional growth activities each year, including recertification for CPI, workshops, in‑services, professional reading materials, and other district and program offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
