We are seeking a dedicated, adaptable, and engaging educator to join our Social Studies department as a Long-Term Substitute.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a long-term substitute, you carry many of the duties of a full-time educator. Your duties include:
Instructional Leadership- Deliver Engaging Lessons: Implement and adapt lesson plans for 7th-grade foundational social studies and 9th-grade advanced concepts.
- Facilitate Discussion: Encourage students to analyze historical events, current affairs, and civic responsibilities.
- Differentiation: Adjust teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Climate Control: Maintain a positive, structured, and safe classroom culture consistent with school-wide expectations.
- Assessment: Grade assignments, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records in the Synergy (gradebook).
- Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for parents regarding student progress and behavior.
Beyond the standard teaching requirements, this specific role includes:
- Curriculum Continuity: Collaborate with the Social Studies Department to ensure 7th and 9th graders meet district benchmarks during the permanent teacher's absence.
- Bridge Building: Attend any department or grade level meetings and professional development days to stay aligned with school goals.
- Reporting: Keep detailed notes for the permanent teacher to ensure a seamless transition back into the classroom.
- Education: Bachelor's degree (required);
Major in History, Education, or Social Sciences (preferred). - Certification: Valid Minnesota Teaching License or Long-Term Substitute Permit.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, proficiency with classroom technology (Google Classroom/Smart Boards), and a genuine "people person" attitude.
