Qualifications:
- Proficiency in sign language (ASL or other required system)
- Familiarity with educational settings and terminology
- Ability to interpret in both one-on-one and group situations
- Professional demeanor and strong communication skills
- Collaborative approach to working with educators and student support teams
- Flexibility to adapt to changing classroom needs
- Relevant certification or licensure (where required by state or district guidelines)
- Prior experience supporting learners with diverse needs is valued
- Interpret spoken language into sign language for students during lessons, school activities, and meetings
- Facilitate effective communication between students, staff, and peers
- Support students' participation in classroom discussions, school assemblies, and extracurricular events
- Assist with written communication as requested, ensuring content is accessible
- Maintain confidentiality and respect for student privacy at all times
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support personnel to promote inclusive practices
- Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance interpreting skills
