Job Description

The Director of Teaching & Learning serves as the chief academic officer for the District providing leadership, coordination and facilitation in the development and implementation of K-12 curriculum, standards and instructional programs. In addition, the Director of Teaching & Learning serves as the District Assessment Coordinator, planning and coordinating all K-12 district-level standardized testing, assessment and evaluation as required by federal, state or local mandates.

Furthermore, they plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate state and federal legislation; develops, directs, evaluates and administers procedures, programs, budgets, staffing and staff development as related to the above programs/services; and advises the Superintendent on matters regarding instructional programs district wide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

60% Curriculum, Standards & Assessment

  • Directs teams in the development of research-based curriculum systems, instruction, assessment and interventions that meet the academic and behavioral needs of all students
  • Collaborate with staff to select, implement and support programs and services aligned to State standards and requirements
  • Evaluates district curricular programs and monitors the implementation and compliance of programs while ensuring integration with the District Strategic Plan
  • Monitors district curriculum and assessment expenditures and budget
  • Serves as District Assessment Coordinator in conjunction with the Information Systems Specialist
  • Interprets and communicates district-wide assessment results to Board, staff and the community
  • Creates systems for collecting and analyzing data, by classroom, building and district
  • Oversees the development of common assessment practices and pacing
  • Coordinates the Comprehensive Achievement and Civic Readiness report
  • Facilitates the District Advisory Committee and Site Based Leadership Team
  • Facilitates the implementation of State and Federal legislative requirements pertaining to curriculum, standards and assessment, including the Read Act

20% Support Professional Training and Development with Staff

  • Oversees training for certified staff on curriculum materials
  • Provides Teacher mentorship program oversight
  • Attends training, conferences, and meetings to stay current with educational trends and instructional strategies

10% Student Support

  • Responsible for the American Indian Education committee
  • Oversight and management of Federal and State Grants and Funding Sources:
    Title, Gifted Ed, ADSIS and American Indian, including nonpublic schools for Title I and II funding; and other grants as assigned
  • Serves as District Perkins Coordinator
  • Manages daily school operations in the absence of building principals, as requested

5% Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet

  • Participates in councils, committees, and task forces representing the school
  • Liaison to the Education Foundation
  • Makes recommendations to the Superintendent regarding hiring, renewal or non-renewal of contracts
  • Oversee the district communication plan, including coordination of district staff/family communications
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with District policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising job performance and disciplining employees
  • Supervises Director of Tech Integration, Information Systems Specialist, District Literacy Lead and District TOSA(s)

5% Supervise department staff

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with District policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising job performance and disciplining employees
  • Supervises Director of Tech Integration, Information Systems Specialist, District Literacy Lead and District TOSA(s)

Perform other duties as assigned or requested including attending professional development / meetings, in-services and workshops.
