Key
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant sign systems
- Experience interpreting in educational environments, preferably in K-12 schools
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to students' diverse backgrounds
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with educators, students, and families
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (state and/or national credentials preferred)
Essential Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language during classroom instruction, assemblies, meetings, and school activities
- Convey students' signed communication to teachers and peers clearly and accurately
- Support students in both individual and group settings, ensuring equal access to curriculum and participation
- Consult with teachers and staff to facilitate effective classroom strategies and accommodations
- Foster an encouraging, inclusive environment focused on student progress and self-advocacy
- Stay up to date on best practices and continuing education within sign language interpreting
