OverviewUniversity Child Development School (UCDS) located in Seattle, Washington is an independent school serving 390+ Infant‑Toddler, Early Elementary (Preschool, Pre‑Kindergarten, and Kindergarten) and Elementary (1st through 5th grade) students. In addition, the UCDS education institution comprises the UCDS Graduate School of Education. UCDS uniquely serves to prepare teachers, educate children, and develop innovations in curriculum and teaching. UCDS’s unique design as a place where both teachers and children learn, where early‑career teachers develop their practice, and where experienced teachers research and design curriculum, gives rise to its innovation.
The Master of Education program is the evolution of UCDS’ deep history of developing and supporting exceptional educators.
UCDS Graduate School of Education is excited to invite applications for an instructional faculty member to teach an in‑person, two‑course series on assessment for its M.Ed. degree students. The courses meet one evening a week during fall and winter 10‑week quarters, with 10‑15 students. The first course,
Elements of Assessment
, prepares graduate students to understand the purposes, types, and elements of assessment and reflect on how assessment is influenced by and influences school culture. The second course,
Designing Assessment
, focuses on the design, scoring, and feedback routines for assessment. Courses may be taught by a solo instructor or by a two‑person team. Join experienced educators who are committed to improving practice, exchanging ideas, and growing the next generation of teachers.
- Responsible for all aspects of course planning and instruction. Each course will meet either on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm or Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 pm for fall and winter quarters.
- Create and evaluate student course learning outcomes and establish standards of student performance that demonstrate their intended outcomes.
- Evaluate student work in terms of course and program intended learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with faculty quarter team to ensure that students have a consistent and meaningful experience across courses (~4 late‑afternoon meetings per quarter).
- Bring resources and reflection to collegial conversations on instructional methods, the progress of students and effectiveness of the curriculum.
- Participate in annual goal setting and receive regular feedback, facilitated by the Dean of the Graduate School of Education.
- Use inquiry into their teaching and students’ learning to assess how their work contributes to achieving the school’s standards of performance.
- Share their perspectives on continuously improving teaching and learning.
- Invitation to periodically serve on committees that contribute to program and institutional evaluation and planning.
- Master’s degree required, PhD preferred
- A minimum of five years of teaching or educational administrative experience
- Documented achievement in the field of education, as evidenced by published articles, awards, grants, teaching portfolio (both child and adult instruction), student evaluations, consulting evaluations, letters of support from educators in the field, serving on professional committees and presentation of work or research.
