Position Overview
Litchfield Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and relationship-focused Cultural Liaison to join our team beginning with the school year. This is a 185 day, 8 hours a day position that plays a vital role in fostering strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community.
The Cultural Liaison serves as a bridge between the school district, students, families, and community organizations. This position promotes positive relationships, strengthens communication, supports student success, and helps ensure all families feel welcomed, respected, and connected to the educational process. The Cultural Liaison works to reduce barriers to engagement and increase equitable access to educational opportunities for students and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Essential Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and community organizations to support student success and family engagement.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and families by facilitating communication, providing interpretation services, and assisting with translation of district materials as needed.
- Conduct home visits and participate in meetings, conferences, and school events to strengthen school-family partnerships.
- Support students and families in navigating school procedures, educational programs, and available community resources.
- Encourage and promote family participation in school activities, events, and educational opportunities.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff to address student needs and remove barriers to learning and engagement.
- Assist in resolving concerns related to attendance, academics, behavior, cultural misunderstandings, and other school-related matters.
- Support the enrollment and orientation of new students and families.
- Assist with crisis response and provide support to students and families during challenging situations.
- Promote cultural awareness, equity, and inclusion by supporting district initiatives, trainings, and community engagement efforts.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, family, and staff information and ensure compliance with district policies and applicable data privacy laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by district administration.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with diverse populations and families.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Knowledge of community resources and support services.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Community Engagement, or a related field.
- Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
- Experience working in schools, youth services, family support, or community outreach.
- Training or experience in cultural responsiveness, equity, diversity, or family engagement practices.
