Special Education (DCD) Teacher, full time - Delano High School
Delano High School is looking for a dedicated professional with a focus on student achievement and reflective growth to assist our team as a special education teacher. The successful candidate will make a positive contribution to improving student academic and social/emotional behaviors in support of our mission. The successful candidate will teach sections of study skills, social skills, functional academic skills and functional life skills to 7-12th grade students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Other courses may be taught as determined by the needs of students.

- Collaborate with school and district staff to acquire and/or create a highly effective and rigorous curriculum.
- Effectively create and deliver daily lessons and provide needed support for students to achieve learning objectives and broader learning goals.
- Maintain and report accurate student attendance and performance records.
- Collaborate effectively with school and district staff as part of a department team and other leadership committees.
- Effectively deploy classroom management strategies in support of positive school and classroom culture and climate.
- Use flexible thinking and have the adaptability to address student needs and respond calmly during crisis situations.
- Provide instructional direction to paraprofessional support staff including creating and assigning activities, instructional oversight and providing general guidance.
- Communicate with parents in a timely manner. Maintain positive and constructive communication with students, staff, parents, and community.
- Work collaboratively with parents and other staff members to reinforce the educational program and advocate for each student.
- Thorough knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations.
- Ability to adhere to due process timelines and complete individualized education plan and evaluation paperwork to guide educational programming.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide effective teaching strategies while adhering to the district philosophy and vision.
- Create a classroom environment that responds to the needs of individual learners.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experience in a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
- Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Required:
An appropriate MN professional teaching license (K-12 DCD or K-12 ABS) or the ability to attain one.
