Position Overview
The Neuroscience Program at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure‑track position, to begin September 1, 2027, at the rank of assistant professor. We welcome applications from candidates with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, particularly those with expertise in electrophysiology. Responsibilities include shared teaching of Foundations in Neuroscience with accompanying laboratory, an upper‑level Neurobiology course with accompanying laboratory, and a seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise.
The typical teaching load is five courses spread over our three 10‑week terms per year.
The Neuroscience Program at Carleton is jointly administered by faculty in Neuroscience, Biology and Psychology. It is housed in Carleton’s Integrated Science Center with state‑of‑the‑art research and teaching laboratories and equipment.
QualificationsApplicants should be committed to furthering the College’s goals of providing an effective learning environment for all students. A completed Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field with postdoctoral experience is preferred, but applicants who will complete their Ph.D. by September 2027 will be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and research in an undergraduate liberal arts environment.
Neuroscience faculty are expected to develop an active research program that engages Carleton undergraduates in scholarly contributions to their subfield. The expected starting salary range for this position is between $87,480 and $93,290. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job‑related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
